Everyone knows about that magical laundry monster that loves to steal just “one” of your favorite pair of socks, leaving you completely baffled and with a dryer full of homeless socks. While May 9th is Lost Sock Day, there are several creative ways to find homes for lost socks.
1. Prevent your socks from getting stolen by the laundry monster!
There’s always the chance that socks will simply be lost at some point, but to help reduce the amount of lost sock souls, consider pinning your sock pairs together before you wash them. Even after you take them out of the wash, keep them pinned when you put them in the dryer. It’s perfectly safe and you can enjoy keeping your socks together, the way it was meant to be.
2. Mesh Laundry Bags.
A mesh laundry bag is great for any delicates you have to wash, but a real treasure for all who suffer from “Lost Sock Syndrome”. You can still pin your sock pairs together if you want extra security, but with a mesh laundry bag, it’s not necessary. Just throw your socks in the bag, zip it up, and you’re done.
You can secure the bag closed with a safety pin if that gives you peace of mind. Either way, the bag should be secure enough to handle washing and drying, and your stocks can stay together forever!
3. Buy the same style of socks.
I know it sounds a little crazy, but buying the same style of socks and washing those same styles together means that you have plenty of backups in case you do actually lose any in the wash and drying process. Of course, you hope for the best, but it never hurts to have a backup plan, even for your socks! With this idea, you can easily grab a sock from any pair and use it in place of the one that’s missing. Very simple and less stress!
4. Put together an orphanage for all the lost socks.
Grab a large tub where you can put plenty of lost socks, if you have a lot, and make it a temporary home until you come across a match to each of those socks. You can have different tubs for socks that have dark colors, light colors, patterns or prints. It’ll make it much easier to match them this way, when lost socks are found.
5. If all else fails, just roll with the fashion punches.
It should be no surprise that mismatched socks are considered a fashion statement. Put those lonely socks to use and wear them, even if they are mismatched. If you plan on wearing boots or anything that covers them up, you can make it your own little secret because no one will see your socks anyway.
